Common myths about car crash settlements

On Behalf of | May 2, 2021 | Personal Injury |

Most people get into a car and drive somewhere every day. As a result, most people end up getting into a car accident and getting hurt at some point in their lives.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 2 million people every year sustain injuries in a car accident. Although car accident injuries are common, many myths still surround the car crash settlement process.

Insurance will cover all costs

Many assume that after an accident, their insurance provider will fully pay to fix their car and cover their medical expenses. But these costs can add up quickly, and many drivers find that their car insurance does not provide adequate coverage to compensate them for these expenses.

The settlement process takes years to complete

It is hard to determine exactly how long the car crash settlement process will take, but most take a reasonable amount of time to resolve. Usually, insurance companies are eager to settle as quickly as possible, whether this means the victim receives adequate compensation or not.

The opposing driver will pay for the damages

Some car accident victims may not want to file a claim against another driver after a car accident because they think that driver will become financially responsible for the accident. However, the opposing driver’s insurance company will typically pay for the settlement awarded to pay for medical expenses, injuries and property damage.

Some also believe that they should not file a claim for minor injuries. But it is difficult to anticipate the long-term damage of a car accident, and vehicle collision victims should not wait to file a claim.
