Spotting the signs of a brain injury

On Behalf of | Mar 22, 2021 | Car Accidents |

The brain is a powerful and sensitive organ. It runs the body, so when it has damage, it may mean trouble.

After a car accident, injuries to the head may not appear as one might suspect. Unless there is evidence of impact on the skull, such as a cut or bruise, a person suffering from a brain injury may not know it. Knowing some of the signs that the brain has damage after a crash may help stave off a more catastrophic result.

Physical signs

Some symptoms of brain trauma mimic those of other illnesses. For example, nausea may come on strong, and a person may even vomit. These two symptoms do not normally point to a possible brain injury. However, when one or the other comes on after a car accident, it may point to an internal head injury. One of the most telling symptoms is a headache that does not feel better after rest or medication.

Cognitive symptoms

There are other ways a head injury may start to manifest. The way a person sees or hears may start to flounder. Things may become blurry, and sounds may go from soft to loud. Slurred speech and difficulty recalling words are also clear signs that something is wrong in the brain.

A car accident can leave a lasting impression. Unfortunately, when it happens to the brain, it may mean a longer recovery and difficult consequences. After a vehicle crash, getting a complete medical checkup may identify subtle signs of a head injury.
