One of the most frightening experiences for any motorist or pedestrian is to be caught up in a collision. There are times that these car accidents will also lead to additional charges against the at-fault driver who may be wanted for reasons beyond the current wreck. Recently, a man who was wanted by Tennessee officials for causing a serious hit-and-run accident was located in the state’s correctional system after being remanded into custody for other charges.
According to the report, two teenagers were walking along a local road back in May when they were struck and seriously injured by a motorist. The driver left the scene of the crash without providing assistance to the victims. Both were later transported to a nearby medical center for treatment of their injuries. Their current condition was undisclosed in the recent report.
The 68-year-old man who is believed to have hit the teens was purportedly hiding in the woods for several weeks following the wreck. When police were tipped off to his whereabouts, they arranged a plan to apprehend him. When they did so, he was found in possession of a firearm and was taken into custody.
When he did not appear for a scheduled hearing on the hit-and-run charges, it was discovered that he had been returned to another system for parole violations. He is now facing federal weapons charges, which may take precedence over the other offenses related to the injured teens.Whenever victims suffer serious injuries due to car accidents that are caused by negligent motorists, they also sustain significant monetary damages. They may seek redress for those losses through Tennessee’s civil justice system.
