Workers' compensation often provides much-needed support

Those who work in the construction industries face various potential hazards from both equipment and falls. If those two factors combine during an unforeseen accident, workers can suffer serious or even fatal injuries. Tennessee workers who have been injured on the job often rely on the benefits provided by the workers' compensation insurance program to get them through difficult circumstances.

Recently, emergency responders were called to a science museum in another state in response to a call about an injured worker. The 51-year-old man was helping to renovate the building's electrical system. As the independent contractor was attempting to lift an electrical panel unit with a forklift, the flooring beneath the machinery gave way. The machine landed on the man, trapping his arm. According to reports, the worker's arm was punctured by the tines of the forklift.

Crews worked to free the man with the use of other heavy-duty machinery. he was then transported to a nearby medical center and underwent surgery to repair the damage to his upper limb. The fire company commander stated that the man's injuries were severe, but it is believed that he will survive and that the arm can be saved. Museum officials expressed condolences and stated the incident was the result of an unfortunate accident.

Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration have begun an investigation into the accident. The injured man will likely require an extended recovery and rehabilitation period in an effort to regain use of his seriously injured arm. When these types of serious accidents befall Tennessee workers, the stress over how to provide for their families may only compound their injuries. They may choose to enlist the services of an attorney who is well-versed in filing successful claims with the workers' compensation program in pursue recovery of the maximum available benefits in a timely manner.
