Families may seek relief from damages via wrongful death lawsuits

The loss of a loved one is a tragedy from which families may never fully recover. If that death was sudden, as happens in a traffic accident, the emotional pain may only be exacerbated by the financial burdens these accidents often impose. Under some circumstances, Tennessee families may seek relief from these economic burdens through a wrongful death civil claim.

Recently, one family received te shocking news that their loved one was killed in a horrific crash with a commercial vehicle. According to Tennessee police, a 49-year-old woman was traveling north along a local road. For reasons that are still unclear, the driver of a dump truck, headed southbound, veered over the center line and crashed into the woman’s vehicle.

Several emergency crews responded to the scene of the crash. The dump truck was towed away from the victim’s car, as she was trapped inside of it. Emergency workers used heavy-duty hydraulic equipment to cut away the driver’s side portion of the car to free the woman. Unfortunately, their efforts to save her life were unsuccessful. The driver of the truck was also injured in the collision and was transported for medical care.

Tennessee officials are still investigating the cause of this fatal crash, and it is unknown if the driver of the dump truck will face any charges. Families who find themselves in these tragic situations are often at a loss in trying to accept the death of  a loved one while coping with the financial strains that accompany an unexpected death. If there is evidence that negligence on the part of another party contributed to these untimely deaths, then surviving families may have a basis for seeking just compensation for their damages through a wrongful death civil lawsuit. An experienced attorney can assess a case and determine the best course of action most likely to obtain a successful outcome.
