Toyota recalls 1 million vehicles at risk of catching fire

Toyota is in the process of recalling more than 1 million hybrid vehicles worldwide. The company found problems with their electrical systems, specifically the wire harnesses that connect to the car’s power control units. The wire harnesses could wear away over time, generating heat and potentially starting fires.

The recall applies to Toyota vehicles produced between June 2015 and May 2018.

The automaker reported that less than 200,000 of these vehicles are in the U.S. The safety recall includes the Prius, Prius plug-in hybrid and C-HR SUV models. U.S. drivers will receive recall notices in the mail this month. Affected customers will be able to have the needed repairs done at Toyota dealerships, free of charge.

These types of problems are nothing new. Since 2016, the Japanese carmaker recalled more than 1.7 million vehicles due to faulty parking brakes. Over the past few years, the company also recalled 20 million of its cars due to a risk of exploding airbags.

Faulty designs can cause disastrous car wrecks

Automobile equipment malfunctions could have fatal consequences. Tire-blowouts, failing brakes and faulty air bags are all examples of faulty designs. Defective cars can be just as dangerous at negligent drivers. Common problems with cars can include issues with steering, braking, lights or acceleration.

A car accident sometimes involves many different parties that are partially responsible. A driver can be at fault for driving recklessly or driving a car that they knew was in bad shape. Additionally, equipment manufacturers can be at fault for flawed designs.

There are many legal aspects to consider when filing a car accident claim. It’s wise for individuals to have their cases evaluated before seeking compensation. Various routes could yield a greater outcome.
